Duterte will not object to De Lima's request for furlough, says Senator Bong Go

President Rodrigo Duterte will not object to the petition for furlough filed by Sen. Leila de Lima asking the court to allow her to see her ailing mother, according to Sen. Bong Go as reported by GMA News' Joseph Morong.

De Lima, detained in connection with drug-related charges, filed the petition after being informed about her mother's worsening health condition in Camarines Sur. Malacañang has earlier distanced itself from the petition.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the decision on the matter lay with the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court.

De Lima has asked the court to allow her to see her 86-year-old mother, Norma, in Iriga City on August 15 or as soon as possible.

De Lima was last granted a furlough in June to celebrate her son's passing of the Bar examinations. — BAP/KBK, GMA News
