Duterte declares Nov 17 Nat'l Students’ Day to honor student activism

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11369 declaring November 17 of every year as National Students’ Day.

National Students’ Day, which would coincide with International Students' Day, would be an opportunity to recognize the “invaluable contribution of student activism to Philippine democracy" and for "initiating efforts to foster leadership among Filipino students.”

An annual program of activities for the observance of National Students’ Day would be prepared and implemented with the National Youth Commission (NYC) serving as the lead agency.

The Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education were also mandated to support the NYC in all efforts to facilitate and promote related activities in all public and private schools.

The law also encourages all schools, colleges, and universities to extend their full support for exercises and activities launched by students during the observance of National Students’ Day. — DVM, GMA News
