Faeldon won't resign amid GCTA controversy

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director Nicanor Faeldon said Monday he will not resign from post amid the controversy surrounding the possible release of convicted rapist-murderer Antonio Sanchez through Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).

During the joint hearing of the Senate blue ribbon and justice committees on the implementation of GCTA law, Senator Risa Hontiveros asked Faeldon point-blank if he will resign amid the "mistakes" in the implementation of the GCTA law.

"Sa ganitong kaliwa't kanan na kapalpakan, pagkukulang tungkol sa GCTA, mga importante pero simpleng tanong na mahirap sagutin dito sa komite na dapat alam na alam n'yo agad, kelan po kayo magre-resign sa inyong puwesto bilang BuCor head, Usec?" she said.

Faeldon said he would defer to the appointing authority, referring to President Rodrigo Duterte.

When Hontiveros asked him again if he thinks he should resign, the embattled BuCor head said, "I believe no, ma'am."

Hontiveros then asked Faeldon if he believes he is doing a good job as BuCor head, to which he answered in the affirmative.

But Hontiveros contradicted his statement, saying the committee hearing shows that Faeldon is not doing a good job.

"So far, [ang] lumalabas sa hearing na ito would point to a different direction,” she said. —KBK, GMA News
