Duterte signs laws declaring July 25 Nat'l Campus Press Freedom Day

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law declaring the 25th of July of every year the National Campus Press Freedom Day.

Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11440 on August 28, 2019, a copy of which was released by Malacañang on Tuesday.

The law notes that it is the State's policy to "promote, protect, and safeguard the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression, speech and of the press."

"As part of the media, the campus press is an important institution in promoting and protecting the freedom of the press and the freedom of expression," it then added.

"As a testament to its remarkable contribution in the continued advancement of these freedoms, the State shall, as a matter of policy, promote the observance of July 25 of every year as 'National Campus Press Freedom Day'."

The law enjoins "all educational institutions" to provide full support and assistance to the activities and events to be conducted by students in connection with the annual celebration. —KBK, GMA News
