Pasig River rehab exec fired amid anti-graft drive —Palace

The executive director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission has been sacked from his post, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Panelo said Jose Antonio Goitia's termination was pursuant to President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign against graft and corruption.

"We advise Mr. Goitia to turn over all official documents, papers and properties in his possession to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Finance and Administrative Services of the Commission," Panelo said.

"We hope that this shall serve as another example that this administration does not —and will never —tolerate corrupt practices in the bureaucracy and in public service," he added.

Goitia is the second government official that Duterte let go in less than a week.

Duterte on Friday said that he fired Bureau of Correction Director General Nicanor Faeldon after inmates convicted of heinous crimes were released from the New Bilibid Prison due to an alleged misapplication of the good conduct time allowance law. —NB, GMA News
