Duterte to fire econ official for poor performance

Another official in the Duterte administration is expected to get the axe not because of corrupt practices but due to poor performance.

“May tanggalin na naman ako. Though she is not corrupt, she is not in parity with others in terms of performance,” President Rodrigo Duterte said in a speech on Tuesday.

“She is handling an economic office…I have to [make the] change,” he added.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier on Tuesday announced the firing of Jose Antonio Goitia as the Executive Director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission due to corruption.

Duterte called on government officials to stay away from corruption.

“I would like to take this opportunity to never engage in corruption or any unlawful activity that will smear your dignity and taint your integrity,” Duterte said.

“Public office is a public trust. We must always be accountable to the people. This is not a challenge. This is a mandate,” he added. —NB, GMA News
