Palace welcomes Drilon proposal to cancel drug queen's passport

Malacañang on Monday welcomed opposition Senator Franklin Drilon's proposal that the Department of Foreign Affairs cancel alleged drug queen Guia Gomez Castro's passport.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo called Drilon’s proposal a “good idea” given that Castro had several arrest warrants issued against her over drug-related cases.

Drilon said Castro could be considered a fugitive from justice, grounds for the cancellation of a passport under Republic Act 8239.

“Let’s just say it’s a good idea. It’s for the DFA to decide,” Panelo said at a news conference when asked whether Malacañang would recommend the action to the DFA.

Castro, former village chief of Barangay 484 Zone 48 in Manila, was confirmed to have left the country last September 21 on board a Cebu Pacific flight for Bangkok, Thailand.

Immigration authorities have already been monitoring her whereabouts.

Castro was allegedly the buyer of "recycled" drugs that corrupt police officers seized during legitimate operations. She has denied the allegation.  — DVM, GMA News
