PNP fully supports embattled chief Albayalde —Banac

Philippine National Police spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac on Wednesday gave the assurance that the PNP fully supports Police General Oscar Albayalde amid the issues being thrown at the PNP chief.

At a press briefing, Banac told reporters that there is no need for a "loyalty check" within the police force.

Banac assured the public that the campaign against illegal drugs as well as the internal cleansing efforts within the PNP would continue.

However, Banac admitted that some policemen are saddened with the issues that are hounding the PNP.

He believes however that the PNP can surpass all of these.

In the Senate investigation on the issue of ninja cops or policemen involved in drug recycling, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong Jr. said Albayalde intervened in the dismissal order on his subordinates allegedly involved in drug recycling in Pampanga in 2013.

Magalong further bared that Albayalde also acquired a sport utility vehicle after the questioned drug operation, just like the operatives involved.

Albayalde denied the allegation, saying that what he had during that time was an old pick-up truck he bought from a neighbor.

On Wednesday the PNP chief asked for any proof to support Magalong's claim that he had acquired such a vehicle after the controversial drug buy-bust in Pampanga in 2013. —KG, GMA News
