551 NCRPO cops to assist in ‘aggressive and massive’ reforms at Bilibid

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Saturday that they would provide the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) with 551 police officers to assist in the "aggressive and massive" reforms at the New Bilibid Prison.

According to a statement, the policemen would ensure the safety of BuCor Director General Gerald Bantag and other personnel who would implement the reforms at the NBP.

President Rodrigo Duterte had appointed General Gerald Bantag as the new BuCor Director following his dismissal of Nicanor Faeldon.

Duterte had ordered Bantag to fight against corruption and spearhead reform initiatives at the bureau.

Bantag, during a meeting with Eleazar on Friday, said he had crafted security plans that would put an end to the criminal schemes of convicted felons, particularly those involved in illegal drugs.

"Do not even dare to destroy the trust given to us by the BuCor leadership. You are here to help Director General Bantag, to get rid of corruption and other illegal operations here as instructed by the President," NCRPO Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar meanwhile instructed his men.

The cops would only be temporarily stationed at Bilibid while Bantag evaluated his personnel. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
