House leadership welcomes Cayetano's 62% trust rating

Leaders of the House of Representatives on Monday welcomed Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano's 62 percent trust rating, according to a Pulse Asia survey, which they said was proof that the public approved of the latter's hard work.

In a statement, House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez said the House leadership was "elated" by the results of the September 2019 Pulse Asia's Ulat ng Bayan survey.

"This is the first time that Speaker Cayetano has been rated by the Filipino people through the Pulse Asia’s Ulat sa Bayan survey, and we are collectively proud of our leader’s exemplary trust and approval rating," added Romualdez.

"The trust and approval extended by our countrymen to Speaker Cayetano will definitely prompt all of us in the House of Representatives to work harder in the legislative mill in the days to come."

For his part, Deputy Speaker Michael Romero believed that the House of Representatives would "continue to win the hearts of Filipinos" with the leadership style of Cayetano.

"Sincerity, industry and loyalty to the people – traits that embody the Speaker’s personality – did not go unnoticed. He truly deserved the trust of our people," he said.

Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu, meanwhile, said Cayetano has been doing his best to reciprocate the support given to him by his colleagues when they elected him as Speaker.

"Like President [Rodrigo] Duterte, his primary focus is to serve and make better the life of Filipino people," he said.

Anakalusugan party-list Representative Mike Defensor, while admitting that he did not campaign for Cayetano's speakership, the latter was nevertheless was able to inspire House members to perform better.

"His work ethic, his competence, and vision for our nation have made the collective membership of the House of Representatives work harder - side by side with the leadership and thus the approval ratings," Defensor explained.

The results of the same Pulse Asia survey also found that Duterte's approval rating had dropped seven percentage points, from 85 percent in June to 78 percent in September. — DVM, GMA News
