5 things to know about African swine fever


Amid the spate of cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus in the country, many Filipinos have become wary about eating pork.

In his Tuesday report for Brigada, Joseph Morong listed five facts about ASF to avoid misconceptions and confusion.

Fact #1: ASF is a virus that can kill a pig within seven days.

Fact #2: The ASF virus is not transmissible or harmful to humans.

Fact #3: It is difficult for ASF to spread quickly, especially in an archipelago like the Philippines.

Fact #4: The swine industry in the Philippines generates P260 billion.

Fact #5: The ASF virus has no effect on human health.
