NDRRMC calls warnings of another Mindanao quake a hoax

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) called a message warning of another earthquake that would follow the magnitude 6.3 tremor that struck Tulunan, North Cotabato last October 16 a hoax.

"The NDRRMC does not send messages of that sort. Currently, there is no technology that allows the prediction of earthquakes. Your NDRRMC will never send baseless messages that will only spread fear among our people," the NDRRMC said in a Facebook post.

The council advised the public to vigilant and refrain from spreading such false information.

"We advise our people to ignore those messages and to avoid passing them on to others. Verify received information and stay vigilant," the NDRRMC said.

Seven people were killed and 215 others where injured when a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Tulanan, North Cotabato last week.

A total of 4,151 families or 20,755 individuals, meanwhile, were affected in 79 barangays in Regions XI and XII. Of that number, 269 families or 1,407 persons were being served inside various evacuation centers.

More than 700 aftershocks have been recorded by the NDRRMC. — DVM, GMA News
