Charges vs former PMA commanders a matter of ‘soldiery’ – AFP

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday explained that it was proper for resigned Philippine Military Academy Superintendent Lieutenant General Ronnie Evangelista and Commandant of Cadets Brigadier General Bartolome Bacarro to face charges and undergo due process over a cadet's hazing death as this was a matter of "soldiery."

"When men and women in uniform tasked to accomplish a mission are later asked to account for what they did or failed to do, that is soldiery. When soldiers, airmen, sailors, or marines face a military tribunal or a civilian court to answer charges for what they did or failed to do, that’s due process," the AFP said in a statement.

"That is what military leaders who decide and act in all circumstances must be prepared to do," the statement added.

Evangelista and Bacarro resigned last September 24 over the hazing death of 20-year-old PMA Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio. — Jamil Santos/DVM, GMA News
