Angat Dam's water level drops anew Sunday amid scant rainfall

Angat Dam's water level has continued to drop amid limited rainfall being experienced across the country.

Citing information from state weather bureau PAGASA, Super Radyo dzBB's Manny Vargas reported Sunday morning that Angat Dam water level dropped by a fraction of a meter at 6 a.m. Sunday compared to the level at same time on Saturday.

Vargas said that in the last 24 hours, Angat Dam's level declined slightly, as well as the levels at dams in Luzon and Metro Manila that draw their supply from the Bulacan dam.

Based on PAGASA's Hydro Meteorological Division records, water levels at the following dams have dropped as of 6 a.m.  compared to the same time the previous day:

  • Angat Dam -185.39  meters from 185.41m
  • Ipo Dam - 100.29m  from 100.31m
  • La Mesa Dam - 77.37m from 77.39m
  • Caliraya Dam - 286.34m from 286.37

Earlier, Analiza Solis of PAGASA's Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section, said the Angat watershed needs 900 to 1000 millimeters of rainfall in a month to improve its water level.

But in October, it only got 29mm, which explains the continuous drop in the reservoir's water level. —LBG, GMA News
