Duterte admits difficulty in finding Albayalde’s successor

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday admitted that he was having difficulty finding a successor to resigned Philippine National Police chief General Oscar Albayalde.

“It’s very hard at this time to choose a candidate… the appropriate guy,” Duterte told reporters in Malacañang.

The president emphasized that the next PNP chief needed to be honest.

Last October 17, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año had endorsed Police Lieutenant General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar, and Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa as possible succesors to Albayalde.

Cascolan is the PNP Deputy Chief for Operations, while Eleazar is the Chief of the Directorial staff.

Gamboa was designated as PNP officer-in-charge after Albayalde resigned on October 14 over his alleged links to the controversial 2013 Pampanga anti-drugs operation when he was the province's police chief. — DVM, GMA News
