Duterte says he was sleeping when earthquake hit Davao City on Thursday

President Rodrigo Duterte said he was at home sleeping when a Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit parts of Mindanao, including his hometown Davao City.

According to Cecille Villarosa's report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho", Duterte said members of the Presidential Security Group woke him up so he could go somewhere safe.

"Nasa bahay, natutulog. Nagising ako sa mga PSG," Duterte said in an interview.

"Dalawa sila ginising ako. Sabi ko 'Bakit? 'Sir, lumilindol'," he added.

Duterte indicated he didn't think much of the earthquake.

"Sabi ko lindol lang naman yan. Nag-upo sila nung mejo lumakas," Duterte said.

Wala yan," Duterte said.

The series of earthquakes that hit southern Philippines did not spare the house of President Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City, according to his former aide and now Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Thursday.

The senator said he was told that a building located a kilometer away from Duterte's house had collapsed.

Ngayon bumagsak na mismo "yung ground floor kasi parang bakante ‘yun, parking," Go said. —NB, GMA News
