Mactan-Cebu International Airport bags award at World Architecture Festival


The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 bagged an award at the 2019 World Architecture Festival.

The MCIA Terminal 2 is the winner of the Completed Buildings: Transport Category, which bested other airport nominees such as Singapore's Jewel Changi Airport and Turkey's Istanbul Airport.

A judge of the event noted that MCIA Terminal 2 was a "simple and elegant" airport that used many "locally sourced materials."

Another judge noted that the airport was integrated into the area through the development of a local hub and a landscape plan with its design allowing future extensions.

"It is clearly popular with the local community and this established a memorable travel experiences," a judge said.

According to its website, the festival has over 148 judges representing more than 68 countries.

According to the post, the terminal was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates Hong Kong and its principal architect, Winston Shu, in collaboration with world-class Filipino designers. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
