VP Robredo to youth: Individuals are defined by their choices

Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday encouraged the youth to make choices that would help them grow into the leaders they wanted to be, saying that individuals are defined by the choices they make.

During her speech at the 2nd National Summit of Millennials PH (MPH), Robredo said personal values were sometimes compromised in a bid to gain more power.

"So palagi kong tanong, anong klase ka bang leader? Yung gusto mo bang leader yung palagi kang panalo para meron kang kapangyarihan, o gusto mo bang leader maalala ka ng mga future generations as somebody na sa mahirap, pinilit na tumayo sa maayos," Robredo said.

"We are defined by the choices we make. Hindi by how good a speaker are or how powerful we are pero always, always kahit nasaan tayo [...] we would always be defined by the choices we make," she added.

According to Robredo, this does not only apply to politics, but to private establishments as well.

"Palaging nagma-matter kung ano yung choices na ginawa natin nung tayo ay bata pa. Kasi kapag mali ng mali yung choices natin. Parating may effect siya sa kung ano yung pagkatao natin."

She further said that self-discipline and self-control were factors in character building as it was easy to discipline one's self when under watch by someone.

"'Pag wala nang nag ho-hold ng whip na pwede mong gawin kahit anong gusto mong gawin, paano mo pino portray yung sarili mo for the greater good?"

"Sana yung isipin natin yung yoon, na sino ba yung gusto nating maging tayo 30, 40 years from now. Hindi iyon nangyayari by accident," she said. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LBG, GMA News
