More Filipino families rated themselves ‘poor’ in Q3 – SWS

The number of Filipino families who consider themselves “poor” rose to 42 percent during 2019's third quarter compared to the record-low 38 percent in the first quarter, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said Tuesday.

The third-quarter survey was conducted from September 27 to 30 with 1,800 respondents across the country, with a ±2 percent error margin.

Out of all the household heads asked, “Where would you place your family in this card?” 42 percent rated their families as “poor,” 30 percent said their families were “on the line,” while 28 percent considered their families “not poor.”

Meanwhile, 36 percent of Filipinos said their personal quality of life improved in the past 12 months, while 25 percent said their lives worsened, and 38 percent said their lives remained generally the same.

As for the next 12 months of their lives, 46 percent of Filipinos were optimistic that their lives would improve, five percent were pessimistic about future improvements in their lives, 38 percent believed that their lives would remain the same, and 11 percent said they are unsure. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
