Robredo condoles with families of Singapore crash victims

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday condoled with the bereaved families of the Filipino migrant workers who were killed in a car crash in Singapore.

Robredo lamented the “freak accident” in Lucky Plaza last Sunday that claimed two lives and injured four other Filipinos when a car rammed into a metal railing beside the plaza, which is widely known as a hub of the Filipino community in Singapore.

“Oo, nakakalungkot iyon, kasi parang freak accident. Kasi iyong Lucky Plaza, sa Singapore, ‘di ba iyon iyong tambayan ng mga OFW,” the vice president said in her weekly radio program.

“Kaya nakikiramay tayo doon sa pamilya na mga nawalan. Ito iyong klase ng pagkamatay na nakakalungkot kasi biglaan. Parang wala ka naman kasing kasalanan, nabiktima ka lang,” she added.

Two of the six victims of the crash, the Nucos sisters, were saving up for their niece’s 18th birthday celebration and were planning to return home in February when the accident happened.

Arlyn, 50, died in the crash while her sister Arlyn was wounded.

The orphaned children of Abigail Leste, meanwhile, took to social media to grieve the loss of their family’s breadwinner.

The families and friends of the two Filipinas who died have already paid their last respects to the victims. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LBG, GMA News
