Duterte, security officials discuss effects of Iran general’s death –Go

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday summoned Philippine military and national intelligence service officials to discuss the possible effects the assassination of an Iranian general would have on Philippine interests.

In a video tweeted by Super Radyo dzBB’s Ralph Obina, Senator Bong Go said the meeting was set for Sunday afternoon.

“Ipapatawag ni Pangulong Duterte yung bagong chief of staff ng Armed Forces mamayang hapon sa Malacañang, kasama yung mga service commanders including the intelligence community,” said Go.

“Para po sa maaaring maging epekto sa ating bansa, lalo sa mga sympathetic na grupo sa nangyari sa Iran,” he added.

The senator added that Duterte was not only concerned over the local security situation, but also with the effects tensions would have on Filipino workers in Iran.

The Philippine military was thus on standby in case the repatriation of Filipinos from Iran using Philippine air assets became necessary.
