Foreign family isolated in Palawan after showing novel coronavirus symptoms


A Brazilian family who showed symptoms of the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV) is now under isolation in a rural health unit in El Nido, Palawan.

According to Rod Evangelista's Friday report on Super Radyo dzBB, examinations conducted showed that the family's 10-month old baby has a high fever while the father has a sore throat.

 

From Wuhan, China, the family arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday and proceeded to El Nino on Wednesday as tourists.

Before showing symptoms of the virus, the family went on an island hopping in Palawan.

However, the municipal administrator of El Nido clarified that the family has not yet tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to the report, the family will be brought to the Palawan Hospital in Puerto Princessa.

The newest strain of the coronavirus was discovered in December 2019. So far, the virus has killed 17 people in China.

According to the Department of Health, there is no confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in the Philippines as of Thursday.

To prevent the entry of the virus into the country, ports and airports in the country are on heightened alert. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
