New technology seen to fast-track processing of licenses at LTO

The processing of licenses and other requests at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is expected to become quicker and more efficient after the agency adopted a Digital Governance Solution from a German technology company.

Under the new system launched by LTO and Dermalog last week, all information is digitized and centralized at the agency’s headquarters in Metro Manila, allowing employees to process requests more quickly.

Among the information that will be stored in the database are registered driver’s licenses and automobiles as well as penalties and payments for traffic violations.

"The new system is one of the key steps on our way to becoming a frontline government agency showcasing fast and efficient public service for a progressive land transport sector," LTO Chief Edgar Galvante was quoted as saying in a statement.

The LTO also said that the system will allow drivers to see their records online, including the expiry dates of their license, car registration, and violation tickets or payment receipts.

Up to 20,000 driver’s licenses are issued each day, according to the LTO. —Julia Mari Ornedo/NB, GMA News
