COVID-19 frontliners given water salute for service

The water salute, the highest honor given to firefighters, were given to medical frontliners on Tuesday as they continued to fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to a report on Stand for Truth, with 70 volunteers and 13 firetrucks, the Quezon City District 3 Fire Brigade simultaneously aired their sirens and sprayed a fountain of water in thanks to their service.

Overwhelmed, nursing assistant Clarisse Jabican admitted she almost cried. As a frontliner, Jabican said she also had troubles.

"Nakakatakot kasi baka magkaroon ka ng kumakalat na COVID ngayon. Natatakot ako for my family kahit magkaroon na ko 'wag lang 'yung family ko. Syempre sinasakripisyo ko muna 'yung health ko, nag-pray na lang ako lagi kay God,"she said.

Though she could only rest for two to three hours after her 12-hour shift in the hospital, Jabican said her patients were more important.

"Kahit walang pahinga, okay lang, basta makita namin 'yung mga pasyente na gumaling, okay na kami doon,"  Jabican said.
