De La Salle campuses offer halfway houses for medical frontliners


Various De La Salle schools are offering temporary accommodation for health care workers amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in the Philippines.

In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde President Edmundo "Dodo" Fernandez said they have converted some of their classrooms and gym to halfway houses.

The campus in Manila currently caters to more than 10 medical workers of the Philippine General Hospital, one of the referral hospitals for COVID-19.

"Ito po 'yung from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift so dumarating po sila after 5 p.m. We provide them with breakfast, sleeping quarters... we provide them with WiFi so they can get in touch with their family," Fernandez said Wednesday.

He added the living facility is open to frontliners from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

On the other hand, the halfway house in La Salle Greenhills which caters to medical frontliners of the Medical City is open 24 hours.

"We house about 120 in three shifts," Fernandez said.

Further, he said other De La Salle schools in Bacolod and Lipa are also providing temporary shelters to medical workers.—AOL, GMA News
