DPWH: Road repairs to continue during ECQ but only in major roads

Road repairs will continue even amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine but limited only to major thoroughfares, a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official said Monday.

DPWH-National Capital Region District Engineer Ador Canlas said these road works can only be conducted on EDSA, C5 and Roxas Boulevard since these roads are crucial in transporting essential services amid the COVID-19 threat.

“Ang sabi po ng task force (Inter-Agency Task Force), sa major thoroughfares lang po puwede and road repair and construction kasi ito rin po iyong may impact sa delivery ng essential services,” Canlas told Dobol B sa News TV.

Canlas said workers in these areas will strictly observe quarantine protocols.

“Limited rin po ang number of workers who will be allowed to work, they will wear Personal Protective Equipment, observe social distancing, and they will be staying in a facility designated for them. Hindi muna sila uuwi,” he said.

“Gagawin po natin ito kasi habang walang traffic mapapabilis ang trabaho,” Canlas added.

The road works, Canlas said, will only be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in observance of the curfew in place amid the enhanced community quarantine, which is expected to be lifted or modified after April 30.

During the ECQ, non-essential travel is banned and public transport vehicles are barred from operating. --KBK, GMA News
