Public warned on fake DOST face shields sold online

The Department of Science and Technology on Tuesday warned the public against purchasing face shields supposedly made by its Metals Industry Research and Development Center.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Science Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said they received news that face shields with the name and logo of the DOST-MIRDC were sold online.

“‘Yong mga nagsasabing nagbebenta sila ng gawa ng DOST, ‘di tama ‘yon,” he stressed.

Dela Peña said the face shields that are mass-produced by the DOST are only given to frontliners for free.

“Gusto lang namin linawin na ‘yong aming ginagawang (mga face shields) ay dino-donate lang, ‘di siya for sale,” he said.

However, the DOST called on the public for donations of raw materials for the face shields such as polypropylene and acetate sheets.

“Kung may magdo-donate ng raw materials, welcome kayo dahil mahirap humanap ng raw materials ngayon,” dela Peña said.

Meanwhile, dela Peña said DOST can now produce about 5,000 face shields per day due to the agency’s injection molding technology and with the help of a private company. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/RSJ, GMA News
