Cop arrested for transporting unauthorized persons amid ECQ

A police officer was apprehended for transporting unauthorized personnel in Barangay Ibabang Ilasan, Tayabas City on Thursday amid the enhanced community quarantine.

According to a Philippine National Police statement, the cop was allegedly paid P2,500 each by several passengers to transport them from Taytay, Rizal to Tayabas.

The National Capital Region Police Office received a report from the acting chief of a Tayabas City Police Station regarding the matter and, upon confirmation, the officer and his passengers were immediately apprehended.

After being given medical examinations, the suspects were temporarily detained at the Tayabas City Custodial Facility.

NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas ordered the director of the Manila Police District to conduct a precharge investigation and, with the Tayabas City Police Station, to file charges against the suspects.

"I have relayed my reminders as well to all commanders and heads of offices to regularly check and monitor their personnel. Anybody caught doing illegal activities will face charges to be filed against them if warranted, and they will be relieved immediately," Sinas said.

Meanwhile, the district force commander and the immediate supervisor of the cop were directed to submit their explanation for command responsibility.

"This is a warning to all other Metro Cops not to abuse your authority because Team NCRPO is strictly enforcing the internal cleansing program of PNP to eradicate erring cops in Metro Manila," the NCRPO chief added. — DVM, GMA News
