Practices that put Pinoy medical frontliners at risk of COVID-19, according to Chinese experts

Medical experts from Wuhan, China have listed down practices in the Philippines that put medical workers at risk of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to a post by "iWitness," the experts said that eight-hour shifts are too long.

Instead, medical frontliners should only do four-hour shifts.

The experts also noted that Filipino doctors and nurses use N95 masks longer than the ideal amount of time per use. N95 masks, they shared, should only be used for four hours and must be immediately replaced after.

They added that home quarantines are not effective in the Philippines, as it cannot be ensured that people won't leave their homes.

In a report on "24 Oras" last week, the Philippine General Hospital said they will not be able to adopt some of the recommendations of the Chinese team due to constraints in staffing and equipment.

At present, PGH staff get two weeks off for every one week on duty.

Earlier this week, the Department of Health announced that 1,245 healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19.

27 have already succumbed to the disease.
