PNP names new Ilocos Region police chief

Philippine National Police chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Sunday designated Police Brigadier General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. as the new chief of the Police Regional Office I.

Azurin, who was the director of the PNP Maritime Group, replaced retiring Police Brigadier General Joel Orduña, a member of PMA Maringal Class of 1988, who had been at the helm of the Ilocos Region PNP since April 2019.

Azurin also served as deputy director of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management in 2019. He is a member of PMA Makatao Class of 1989.

Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Omega Jireh Fidel, former director of the PNP Engineering Service, will assume Azurin's vacated post as director of the Maritime Group.

Moreover, Police Colonel Abelardo Matillano will replace Fidel as the acting director of the Engineering Service, while Police Colonel Angeles Genorga Jr. was assigned as officer-in-charge of the PNP Training Service.

Gamboa said the new designations took effect on Sunday, May 10. — DVM, GMA News
