Show cause orders to be issued vs. 30 mayors over slow cash aid distribution -DILG spox

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday said the agency would issue show cause orders against at least 30 mayors who were supposedly slow in distributing the cash assistance to beneficiaries under the Social Amelioration Program.

"Para po dito sa mga lugar na naging mabagal ang distribusyon ng SAP, nagutos na po si Secretary Eduardo Año na magpalabas show cause orders sa di lalagpas na 30 mayor sa buong bansa," DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said at a Laging Handa press briefing.

Malaya did not disclose further details about the 30 mayors as the agency will issue a formal announcement regarding the matter.

Malaya said the mayors should explain why they failed to meet the deadline in the distribution of the cash aid last May 10.

"Pagpapaliwanagin po natin ang mga mayor kung bakit di nila nailabas or na-distribute ang Social Amelioration Program bago magkaroon ng deadline noong May 10, 2020," he said.

The DILG has been saying that due process will be followed in probing why local chiefs failed to complete the distribution on or before the deadline.

The DILG earlier said a total of 1,265 LGUs nationwide were able to meet the May 10 deadline set by the government in distributing the first tranche of the emergency cash aid. --KBK, GMA News
