DILG to issue guidelines for Eid'l Fitr observance amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Department of the Interior and Local Government is set to release guidelines to ensure that proper health protocols will be followed in the observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan on May 25.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año reminded the public, especially Muslim brothers and sisters, that any form of mass gathering is prohibited during the holiday.

"Maglalabas kami ng guidelines and advisory to ensure that Muslim revelers will follow the minimum health standards and no mass gathering shall be observed," Año said late Wednesday night.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 25, 2020 a regular holiday because of the Feast of Ramadan.

The Palace stressed that existing community quarantine and social distancing measures must still be observed during the holiday.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of Ramadan, which calls for spiritual reflection through praying, fasting, and abstaining from sinful behavior.  —KBK, GMA News
