Six new infections bring COVID-19 cases among health workers to 2,336

Six more health care workers have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019, bringing the total to 2,336, the Department of Health (DOH) has said.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that recoveries among health care workers had  climbed to 1,086 while active cases are recorded at 1,219.

The number of fatalities among medical frontliners remained at 31.

"Base po sa datos natin, paunti na nang paunti ang naitatala natin na health care workers na nagpo-positibo," Vergeire said in an online briefing.

"Patuloy na tumtataas ang bilang ng ating mga COVID-19 survivors mula sa hanay ng mga health care workers," she added.

"Malaking tulong ang strict enforcement of infection prevention and control measures sa ating mga hospital sa pag-sisiguro ng kaligtasan ng ating mga frontliners," Vergeire said.

Among the active cases, 895 patients or 73.42 percent are mild, 322 patients or 26.42 percent are asymptomatic, and two are in severe condition.

The DOH earlier said that the death toll among health workers dropped to 31 from 35 after determining that some of them had already retired.

"As further validated by our epidemiology bureau we immediately corrected our data and informed the public of these incorrectly tagged health care workers," Vergeire said.

"Some of them have retired as health care workers and were no longer in the line of duty," she added.

The confirmed cases are composed of 853 nurses, 760 physicians, 144 nursing assistance, 86 medical technologists, 43 radiologic technologists, and 294 non-medical staff.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has reported a total of 13,597 confirmed COVID-19 cases with  3,092 recoveries and 857 fatalities. -NB, GMA News
