COVID-19 VACCINE?

DOH: FDA filed cease and desist order against unregistered Fabunan

Philippine Food and Drug Administration has already issued a cease and desist order against the unregistered Fabunan Antiviral Injections that is supposedly a vaccine against COVID-19, the Department of Health said Sunday.

“They still have not applied for CPR. They were already issued a cease and desist order by FDA, case build up is being done already,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

This issue arose after the Fabunan vaccine circulated anew on social media and was allegedly used in a vaccine drive in Zambales.

Vergeire said the DOH is studying Fabunan’s case already.

“FDA has jurisdiction when it comes to the unregistered drug/vaccine, and Professional Regulation Commission for the practice of medicine,” she said.

In late April, the DOH warned that people who would use the Fabunan could face liability.

Vergeire said drugs that have not yet passed clinical trials and have not been registered with the FDA could not be administered on people.

She added that the FDA or the DOH could not take any action on the product since its manufacturers have yet to apply before the FDA. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LBG, GMA News
