Relief of Aaron Aquino as PDEA chief not due to lack of trust -Palace

President Rodrigo Duterte removed Aaron Aquino as chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) because he will be transferred to another government post, Malacañang said Wednesday.

“I can assure you that this is not a case of loss of trust and confidence. He will just be given a new assignment,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview on ANC.

Duterte has nominated Aquino to become the next president and chief executive officer of the Clark International Airport Corporation, according to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Aquino’s appointment paper was signed by the President on May 22.

Aquino served as PDEA director general for over two years. He was succeeded by Wilkins Villanueva, who headed the PDEA Northern Mindanao and a former chief of the Bureau of Customs intelligence and investigation service. —AOL, GMA News
