PNP to assess if alert status will be downgraded — Gamboa

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will assess if it will downgrade its alert status following the easing of quarantine protocols in Metro Manila, PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said on Monday.

Full alert status has been declared in the National Capital Region as well as other regions since March due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Hindi pa nada-downgrade but we will assess. We will assess in a few days if we will downgrade it or not. Kasi kaya lang naman tayo nagred-alert noon, 'yun nga because of the situation..." Gamboa said at a press briefing.

"It jives with the emergency situation as declared by the national authority so sinabayan lang namin, it's a state of emergency, required 'yung presence. Of course, we have to understand also na kahit 'yung deployment namin sa opisina is also graduated," Gamboa added.

On June 1, Metro Manila shifted from modified enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine, meaning there will be easing of several restrictions as more industries will be opened and limited public transportation is now available to the public.

Despite easing quarantine measures, Gamboa is calling all police units to have a vigilant stance in protecting the public and implementing healthcare protocols and policies. — RSJ, GMA News
