Stranded passengers waiting at NAIA provided gov't assistance -Pasay mayor

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano on Friday said locally stranded individuals (LSIs) waiting outside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for their flights back home do not experience hunger, as they were provided assistance by the local and national government.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Calixto-Rubiano said she has also provided food assistance from her own pocket for the LSIs.

"Nagtutulungan po kami, pati national government at hindi lang budget ng LGU, pati po 'yung kahit siyempre gusto namin po na makatulong, kahit 'yun paano, 'yung personal na gusto naming magpakain, at madami rin pong ahensiya ng gobyerno na nagpapakain," she said.

“Yes, hindi po nagugutom," she added.

Janitorial and maintenance services are also available for the LSIs' waste disposal, according to Calixto-Rubiano.

The Pasay City mayor said she appealed for airline companies to ask those without tickets to no longer go to NAIA due to lack of flights.

Her comment came as the number of LSIs under the NAIA elevated expressway continue to increase, with some even getting victimized by people selling fake plane tickets.

Assistance poured in from private individuals, groups, and NGOs after the media reported about their situation.
