Chinese medical supplies worth millions seized in Parañaque

Chinese medical supplies worth millions were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after it raided a makeshift warehouse in Parañaque City.

According to John Consulta's Saturday report on "24 Oras Weekend," medicines with Chinese labels were found in the facility, including a hoard of unregistered medicines which were supposedly being used to combat the coronavirus disease 2019.

The NBI also found one area filled with chairs and IV stands.

NBI Task Force against Illegal Drugs chief Jonathan Galicia said that the suspects who were importing the supplies were also setting up other illegal medical facilities.

"Siya 'yung nag se-set up nu'ng mga underground hospital, or kung merong housing for mga workers na Chinese dito, sila na 'yung maglalagay lahat nu'ng kailangan doon. 'Yung mga kama, 'yung mga daily, no, na ginagamit... everything," he said.

The NBI had to use two trucks to retrieve the Chinese medical supplies. Agents have started looking for other underground clinics built by the group in Metro Manila.

"It's important, no, para malaman natin 'yung totoong picture nu'ng condition natin dito sa Pilipinas," Galicia said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
