AFP reviews procedures to improve ops after Jolo incident —Arevalo

Jolo shooting incident Edgard Arevalo review of AFP operations m

The Armed Force of the Philippines is undertaking a review on its procedures during operations after the shooting incident in Jolo, Sulu which resulted in deaths of four Army soldiers.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News  TV on Sunday, AFP spokesperson Major General Edgard Arevalo said the review aims to assess and improve the operations of the armed forces.

“Ito (Jolo shooting incident) ang dahilan kung bakit ang AFP leadership, si Genral Santos Jr. ay nag-utos na (i-review)…” Arevalo said.

“Meron tayong tinatawag na after action review. Dito, inaaral natin ‘yung prosesong ginagawa natin. Ito bang kasalukuyang techniques, tactics, and procedure…ay nakaakma sa kasalukuyang pagkakataon sa umiiral na batas at polisiya,” he added.

On June 29, four Army men were killed by cops in Jolo while working on an intelligence operation on two suicide bombers.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) initially considered the incident as a misencounter. However, it retracted its statement and said what happened in Jolo was a shooting incident.

According to Arevalo, the review  aims to avoid and also prevent the recurrence of untoward incidents in their operations.

“After the review, makita natin, meron pa ba tayong kailangan gawin, pagandahin, mas paayusin upang siguraduhin na mas magiging epektibo at tagumpay ang ating operasyon,” he said.

“At the the same time, kung merong hindi magandang nangyari ay maiwasan na ito at hindi na maulit,” he added.

Upon the order of President Rodrigo Duterte, the National Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation on the incident. —LBG, GMA News
