126 more health workers contract COVID-19; total up to 3,486


The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported that 126 more health workers contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) over the past week, raising the total to 3,486 as of July 4.

In its daily COVID-19 report, the DOH said total recoveries among health workers climbed to 2,685 after 170 more recovered from the respiratory disease, while the death toll climbed to 34 with one new fatality.

The other 767 medical workers are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases are nurses with 1,244 infections, doctors with 875, nursing assistants with 238, medical technologists with 142, and radiologic technologists with 78 cases.

Over 200 other non-medical staff were also included in the tally.

The Philippines has logged 44,254 COVID-19 cases with 11,942 recoveries and 1,297 deaths as of Sunday afternoon. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
