COVID-infected cops increase to 905, PNP says

The number of police officers infected with COVID-19 has risen to 905, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday.

Of the total number of positive cases, 418 have already recovered from the disease while the number of deaths remains at nine, the PNP said.

The police organization also recorded a total of 684 probable cases and 1,238 suspected cases.

On Monday, PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said the National Capital Region Police Office and the Central Visayas police were the police regional offices which recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases.

The PNP headquarters in Camp Crame earlier established a RT/PCR facility for the conduct of COVID-19 testings among police officers.

Gamboa said the construction of a testing facility in Central Visayas is already in progress.

Overall, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines was at 46,333 as of Monday, July 6 — the second highest in Southeast Asia, overtaking Singapore with 44,983 and trailing behind Indonesia with 64,958.

Of the total number, 12,185 have recovered while 1,303 have died. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
