47% of Pinoys say worst is yet to come amid COVID-19 pandemic —SWS


For at least 47% of working age Filipinos, the worst is yet to come amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed Tuesday.

The SWS poll, conducted last May 4 to 10, also showed that 44% of working age Filipinos believe the worst of COVID-19 crisis is over while 8% did not have an answer.

The same poll also stated that the proportion of those who said the worst is yet to come was highest in the Visayas at 54%, followed by Metro Manila at 50%, Mindanao at 48%, and Balance Luzon at 43%.

On the other hand, those who said the worst is behind us were highest in Balance Luzon at 49%, followed by Metro Manila at 43%, Mindanao at 42% and, lastly, Visayas at 38%.

The survey also showed that most of those who said “the worst is yet to come” were college graduates at 53%, followed by junior high school graduates at 49%, elementary graduates  at 40%, and non-elementary graduates at 37%.

Likewise, 49% of those whose quality of life worsened in the past 12 months, termed Losers by SWS, said the worst is yet to come regarding the COVID-19 crisis.

Meanwhile, 51% of Gainers, or those whose quality of life improved, believed the worst is behind us.

The SWS poll was a probability-based survey conducted via mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing of 4,010 working-age Filipinos nationwide aged 15 years old and above.

The sampling error margin is at ±2% for national percentages, ±6% for Metro Manila, ±2 for Balance Luzon, ±3% Visayas, and ±3% in Mindanao.—AOL, GMA News
