PGH reached record 196 COVID-19 admissions, spokesperson
The Philippine General Hospital, which could not accept severe to critically-ill COVID-19 cases at the moment, has reached 196 admissions, its highest so far into the COVID-19 pandemic, its spokesperson said on Thursday.
"Kahapon (Wednesday) umabot kami sa 196 patients na pinakamataas so far," Dr. Jonas del Rosario said in a Dobol B sa News TV interview.
"Kung dati ay 130, naging 150, 170. Ito lang in a matter of two to three days biglang nag-jump ng 196," he said.
Del Rosario said they have to deploy medical staff from the non-COVID part of the hospital to address the continued rise in COVID-19 cases.
"Tayo ay 90% occupancy pero puno na po 'yung aming mga ICU," Del Rosario said, who earlier announced their ICU is almost fully occupied.
He said PGH is trying to release patients whose COVID-19 cases already went into mild to possibly have an opening for other patients.
"Physical beds meron pero human resources medyo na-strain tayo," Del Rosario said.
"Kung talagang 'yung COVID-19 need ay tumataas dahil marami tayong naa-admit, masasara ulit o talagang mali-limit 'yung non-COVID operations ng hospital," the PGH spokesperson added. —LBG, GMA News
