DILG’s Diño urges citizens to remind others about health protocols

Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño on Monday urged ordinary citizens to remind others to follow health and safety protocols amid the health crisis, saying it is the responsibility of each individual to protect his or her family against COVID-19 pandemic.

This came after his proposal to have a shame campaign against Filipinos who do not wear face masks and obey health protocols amid the pandemic.

"Oo, obligasyon na natin 'yan. Kailangan nating proteksyunan ang ating pamilya. Dahil unang-una, banta na 'yan sa seguridad ng kalusugan ng ating pamilya. Sabi nga mayroong human rights, dapat siguro may right to live din tayo..." Diño told GMA News' Unang Balita.

He said law enforcers are not always there to remind citizens about the quarantine protocols being implemented to curb the spread of the virus.

"Dapat ito na ngayon ang maging norm ng ating mamamayan, wala ang barangay minu-minuto, oras-oras, wala ang military. Ang nandiyan lang tayong mamamayan... Doble na eh... 2,000 araw-araw? Eh baka mamaya nasa doorstep na natin 'yan," Diño said.

The official has clarified that the shame campaign would not be directed towards people who test positive for COVID-19.

Asked how the campaign will be enforced, Diño cited a viral video in which a person, onboard a vehicle, uses a megaphone to remind other citizens about wearing of face masks and observing social distancing.

"Mayrong isang viral na video ngayon na kung saan nakasakay siya sa sasakyan tapos may megaphone siya tapos talagang lahat ng makita niya, 'Oh wala kang face mask,' 'Oh, social distancing' tapos mayroon pa, 'Oh wala kang face mask, magpush up ka...'" he said. — RSJ, GMA News
