Defensor asks NBI to help trace netizen who threatened daughter

Anakalusugan party-list Representative Mike Defensor has sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in tracing the person who posted death threats against one of his daughters on his social media account.

In an ambush interview with reporters in Taguig City, Defensor said that one netizen posted comments on one of his posts on Instagram threatening the life of his daughter Juliana.

"Nagulat ako kasi nung Linggo, parang pinost ko yung the night before the novena noong aming anak. Tapos merong nagkomento doon, 'Papatayin ko yung anak mo, g*go.' Yung pangalawang sinabi niya, parang 'Mata sa mata, buhay sa buhay, papatayin ko si Juliana,'" he narrated.

"Siyempre nakakabahala yung ganun. Hindi mo alam kung saan nanggaling yung, kung ano yung isip ng taong yun, at hindi maganda yung ganun," he added.

Defensor said that following the incident, he formally asked assistance from the NBI to determine the identity of the said netizen.

"Nagpa-message muna ako para madaling ma-trace. Alam ko dinelete niya e pero nakuha namin yung pangalan and hopefully ma-trace namin ito," he said.

Defensor admitted that he himself had received death threats and curses in the past, especially whenever he stood on controversial issues, but he would always ignore them.

"Kung minsan siyempre kapag hindi na masyadong maganda ang lengguwahe, dine-delete yan. Pero kung nagmumura lang siya, pinapabayaan ko," he said.

He reminded the public to be responsible in using social media and respect the opinion of other netizens even if they are against their own beliefs.

"Siguro dapat magkaroon din tayo ng disiplina at paggaling sa isa't isa na may mga salitang hindi dapat. May mga gawaing hindi dapat. May mag lengguwahe, pagmumura na iwasan natin," he said.

"Magkaroon man tayo ng iba't ibang pananaw sa pulitika, iba't iba ang ating paninindigan, pero dapat bukas tayo sa pag-uusap at pagsasalita nang hindi nagmumura at nag-aaway," he added. — DVM, GMA News
