Analyst Heydarian’s take on a shame campaign vs ‘pasaway’ Pinoys

Though Interior Undersecretary Martin Diño called for a shame campaign against Filipinos who do not observe health protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic, in Monday’s “Stand for Truth” episode, GMA Network’s resident political analyst Richard Heydarian pointed out that Filipinos were not as “pasaway” as the government may think.

“There are at least two major surveys that have shown that the Filipinos have had not only one of the most stringent and strictest lockdowns in the world, but actually, sumusunod ang mga taumbayan pagdating sa mga basic rules,” he said.

A London-based group found that 91 percent of Filipinos wear masks whenever they go out while 83 percent regularly wash their hands with soap and water.

Heydarian said another study by the Asian Development Bank found that the Philippines has the second-most stringent lockdown in the Asia-Pacific region next to Nepal.

The same study learned that Filipinos’ mobility dropped by 63.2 percent, also the second-biggest drop next to Sri Lanka.

“The facts, the numbers are very clear: the Filipinos are among the least pasaway. In fact, the Filipinos among the most compliant, regulation-abiding people on earth pagdating sa COVID-19 crisis management,” Heydarian said.
