NBI checking if convicted car thief Raymond Dominguez has died of COVID-19 -VACC chief

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is already checking reports that Raymond Dominqguez, the convicted leader of a notorious car theft group, has succumbed to COVID-19 while incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), according to the father of Venson Evangelista, one of his victims.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Arsenio Evangelista, who is also president and spokesperson of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), said checked with NBI Director Eric Distor after receiving a report about his son's killer's alleged death.

"I was forced to call NBI Director Eric Distor... in-update naman niya ako at sabi niya may mga tao na siya doon sa Death Investigation Division ng NBI na nagco-conduct ng autopsy sa NBP," Evangelista said.

"Ang sabi niya lang sa akin, nagpapunta siya ng dalawang [tao niya]... assuming baka may tumawag din sa kanya [to confirm the reports]," he added.

The VACC official, however, stressed that "at this time everything is hearsay."

He also said he spoke with an informant from the Department of Justice who claimed Dominguez was poisoned. "Pero sabi ko that's hearsay. That would be premature," he added.

In April 2012, Bulacan Judge Wilfredo Nieves found Dominguez, suspected leader of the Dominguez carjack gang, guilty of carjacking in 2010.

Dominguez also faced charges for other high-profile incidents including the carjack-murder of car dealer Evangelista in 2011.

Judge Nieves would later on be shot dead in an ambush in Malolos, Bulacan in November 2015. -MDM, GMA News
