PNP logs 10th COVID-19 death

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday announced that a 46-year-old male cop succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), raising its death toll to 10.

The PNP Health Service said the policeman died on Wednesday, five days after receiving his positive test result for COVID-19.

He was a commissioned officer recently assigned to the National Headquarters in Camp Crame.

"We are deeply saddened by this news that another police frontliner died due to this dreaded disease. Just recently, we added safety measures to ensure the health and wellness of our men on the ground,” PNP chief Police General Archie Gamboa said in a statement.

As of July 25, the PNP has recorded 1,932 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 706 recoveries and 10 deaths.

Forty other COVID-19-positive personnel are admitted in hospitals while 1,045 are in PNP-operated quarantine facilities.

The PNP also said its doctors are monitoring 2,449 suspected and 725 probable COVID-19 cases among its ranks. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
