Locsin summons Malaysian envoy over foreign ministry's remarks on Sabah tweet

Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Thursday said he has summoned the Malaysian ambassador to the country after his Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized his statement over Sabah.

"I am summoning the Malaysian ambassador," Locsin tweeted, after pointing out that "[no] country can tell another what it can and cannot say about what the latter regards as rightfully its own."

On Wednesday, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia after Locsin tweeted that Sabah is not part of Malaysia.

The Twitter post in question was Locsin's comment on the tweet by the US Embassy on the assistance given to Filipinos repatriated from Sabah and are now staying in Zamboanga City and Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

“Sabah is not in Malaysia if you want to have anything to do with the Philippines,” Locsin said Monday. —KBK, GMA News
