Alleged extortion money collector arrested in Manila –BOC

The Bureau of Customs arrested an alleged collector of extortion money in a Malate, Manila entrapment operation, the BOC said in a Sunday statement.

Arrested in the operation was "Shonti," who was identified as a non-contractual handyman in the bureau in 2016.

The entrapment operation was mounted in response to a complaint, made through the BOC's 8484 text hotline, which the Intelligence Group and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service verified.

With the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the BOC was able to arrest the suspect who was caught in possession of the P40,000 marked money used as bait.

Several brokers, processors, and importers were invited to the NBI for verification, interview and to shed light on the investigation, the BOC said.

“The Bureau of Customs remains steadfast in its campaign to rid the Bureau of corruption and ensure that unscrupulous individuals are weeded out,” the Customs Bureau emphasized. — DVM, GMA News
